Water softener, carbon filter or reverse osmosis in Palm Beach Gardens?
These systems solve different problems. A softener targets hardness, carbon can reduce disinfectant taste and odor, and reverse osmosis can reduce dissolved substances at a drinking-water faucet. Buying the wrong technology is an expensive way to keep the same complaint.

What does each system actually do?
Ion exchange reduces calcium and magnesium hardness. It helps with scale, spotting and soap performance, but it does not meaningfully lower TDS or remove chloramine by itself.
Carbon media can reduce disinfectant taste and odor and selected organic compounds. Chloramine requires appropriate media, contact time and flow-rate design.
An RO membrane reduces many dissolved substances for drinking and cooking at one faucet. Performance depends on certification, pressure, pretreatment and maintenance.
A carbon-plus-softener configuration can address two separate whole-home goals. More tanks are not automatically better; every component needs a measured purpose.

- Community logistics: gated-community access, contractor registration, work-hour restrictions and any owner or association approval that may apply.
- Ongoing cost: salt, cartridges, membrane replacement, sanitation, warranty exclusions and service frequency.
- Expected output: a measurable result rather than “pure,” “chemical-free” or “removes everything.”
A useful proposal should leave the homeowner with the test results, model information, maintenance schedule and total installed price in writing. Verbal promises are difficult to compare after the appointment.
Seacoast’s 2025 report says the public system met drinking-water standards. A homeowner may still choose treatment for taste, scale or a specific reduction goal. That choice does not prove the untreated water was unsafe.
