SID owns and operates Westlake’s water-distribution infrastructure. Its annual report says it purchases treated water from Palm Beach County Water Utilities, whose source is surficial-aquifer groundwater. Palm Beach County treats the supply; SID distributes it and conducts internal compliance sampling.
Westlake residents should begin with SID’s report because SID is the customer-facing consecutive system. The report separates Palm Beach County supplier results from SID’s internal distribution-system testing.
Why can a home tap differ from the city report?
Compliance monitoring is designed to evaluate the public system under regulatory rules. A property test can investigate one home, faucet or water-treatment concern.
Water age, disinfectant residual, main material and local maintenance can affect taste, odor and some measured values before water reaches a property.
Service lines, brass fixtures, solder, a water heater and time sitting unused can change a first-draw sample. Metals found at one tap may come from plumbing rather than the source water.
A softener, carbon tank, cartridge or reverse-osmosis unit can improve its intended target, add maintenance-related effects or obscure the untreated baseline.
That is why a useful home investigation compares properly collected samples, documents whether each sample was treated or untreated, and interprets the result against the correct standard. It should not turn one unusual fixture result into a claim about all Westlake homes.
What did the latest verified SID report show?
SID says its drinking water met federal, state and local regulations and standards.
The report lists HAA5 at 28.4 ppb against a 60 ppb MCL and TTHM at 40.7 ppb against an 80 ppb MCL.
Palm Beach County supplier UCMR5 results included PFOS and PFOA detections. These monitoring results are not presented as a current Westlake violation.
One of 40 June 2024 taps exceeded 15 ppb at a school fixture beyond SID’s point of service. The table marks the system action level as not exceeded.

What should a new Westlake homeowner check?
Verify Seminole Improvement District before applying SID results to the property.
Record model numbers, media, settings, installation date, bypass position and maintenance requirements.
Use a cold-water sample before any existing equipment. Do not size a softener from a citywide estimate.
Compare cold taps and check current SID notices before buying a whole-house filter.
Use a relevant test and certified reduction claim before selecting point-of-use reverse osmosis.
Document problems and determine builder, installer, utility or homeowner responsibility before modifying new plumbing.
How should treatment be selected?
A softener targets measured calcium and magnesium hardness. Carbon filtration can address disinfectant taste and selected compounds when correctly sized. Reverse osmosis can reduce many dissolved substances at a drinking-water faucet. These technologies are not substitutes for one another.
Require a proposal to state the measured input, the purpose of every component, peak service flow, maintenance cost and applicable independent certification. Westlake’s newer and larger homes can require substantial simultaneous flow, but square footage alone does not size a system.
